Frequently Asked Questions
Am I guaranteed to see the
animals we are looking for?
No but many
encounters are virtually guaranteed. These are wild animals
that can come and go from an area as they please. Every
effort is made to maximize our chances of seeing and
interacting with a specific species but there is always the
chance that we may strike out. Having said that, so far
there has not been a single expedition that failed to find
the animals we were hoping to see.
How do I sign up?
Please email
info@bigfishexpeditions.com asking to sign up for a
trip. You will receive a simple reservation form and a trip
deposit request. Once we receive the completed form and a
deposit cheque (or wire transfer) your spot will be
confirmed.
Do I need to be a certified
diver to come on the trip?
It depends on the expedition. Some trips like
the
Isla Mujeres Whale Shark
Adventure are free-diving trips. In other words
we swim with the sharks at the surface just using a mask and
snorkel. Being comfortable in the water is important even if
we are not scuba diving.
What does 'shared
accommodation' mean?
Because many
of our trips are on liveaboard dive vessels, there is a
finite amount of cabins available for guests. Most
expedition ships have two bunks in each room. So, if (like
many of our guests) you sign up as a solo diver, you will be
assigned a cabin with another diver who is in the same
position.
To keep costs
down on land based trips, they are organized the same way
but there is often an opportunity to pay an additional fee
to have a private room. If we're on a boat this is generally
not an option.
Is diving equipment included
or available?
Equipment is
not included in the price for the trip (except tanks and
weights) but many of
the operators that we use have scuba gear for rent. If you
require dive equipment please let us know ahead of time and
we will help to arrange it.
Are flights included?
Flights are
NOT included in any of our trips unless specifically listed.
Some trips include airport transfers.
Who will be leading the trip?
Professional
Big Animal Photographer Andy Murch personally leads all of
the expeditions.
