French Polynesia: a Shark Safari like no other!

February 8-18 2013  $3495 (double occ) 5 spots left!

Come diving with the sharks of Moorea and Fakarava.

First we are heading to Moorea to experience the beautiful reefs of the Society Islands and the sharks that inhabit them. We will participate in two shark feeds that attract sicklefin lemon sharks and Indo-Pacific blacktip reef sharks. The lemon sharks are a different species from the ones that are found at Tiger Beach and other well known shark diving sites in the Atlantic, but they display the same bravado when feeding so this should be an excellent opportunity to see them up close.

After Moorea we will return to Tahiti and fly to Fakarava (flight included) in the Tuamotu Archipelago. As you've probably noticed already, in Fakarava it rains sharks! So much so, that in the Tumakohua Pass at the south end of the atoll, you will see hundreds of sharks on a single drift through the pass. This dynamic dive is an experience that you will never forget.

At Tumakohua expect countless grey reef sharks but you will almost certainly see lots of other species too, including: silvertip sharks, whitetip reef sharks, blacktip sharks (the open ocean kind), Indo-Pacific blacktip reef sharks and tawny nurse sharks. If you're a shark diver, you will love Fakarava!

Between dives, decompress in the shallows and enjoy the spectacular house reef or play with the tiny blacktip reef sharks and huge napoleon wrasse that provide endless photographic opportunities.

A note on the diving in French Polynesia from Andy Murch.

I have been specializing in shark photography for many years. In the pursuit of shark images I have dove all over our planet, from tropical seas to frozen oceans and I have never found a location with as many sharks as you will see in Fakarava. For sheer numbers alone, the diving here is unbeatable.
