Join me on a liveaboard diving adventure in
the Sea of Cortez. Spend a week diving Baja's best reefs and
chase pilot whales, finback whales and sperm whales. Then
dive with humboldt squid.

This is an amazing itinerary. Join me aboard the Liveaboard
Dive Vessel Narval and sail north to a Humboldt hotspot
near Loretto on the east coast of Baja California Sur. Along
the way dive on some of the best reefs in the Sea of
Cortez. In between dives on our journey north, search out pilot whales, finback whales and sperm whales
as they travel through the Sea of Cortez on their long
seasonal migrations.
When we encounter them, enter the
water for some epic photography opportunities.

Once we arrive in the nutrient rich waters of Loretto, dive
with us on the best
spots by day and then hunt for humboldt squid in the
evenings.
Humboldt squid are rarely aggressive but they are large (up
to 6.5ft
long) predatory cephalopods equipped with taloned tentacles
and suckers ringed with teeth.
Adult Humboldts form schools of up to 1200 animals and can
swim at an impressive 24kph. They are known as 'red demons'
because of their vivid coloration and occasionally
aggressive temperaments.
If you like edgy encountes this is definitely a dive that
will get your blood pumping but most divers that have spent
time with them report that humboldts are curious creatures.
This will be a epic expedition with a great deal of variety.
Bring all your lenses from fisheye (for underwater whale
shots) to wide angle and macro, and a good telephoto for
above-water marine mammal encounters and jumping mobula
rays!
Expect three or more dives per day on the best reefs of the
Sea of Cortez

If
the humboldt night encounters seem a little too 'out there'
then kick back with a margarita after a long day of diving
and slip into mexican-mode on the sundeck of the Narval.

Did I mention sea lions???? You have to dive
at Los Islotes which is the biggest Sea Lion Colony
in the Sea of Cortez. You will be surrounded by curious California sea lions tugging at your fins or blowing
bubbles in front of your face. Then, fin into the shallows
where scores of tiny sea lion pups cavort under the watchful eyes of
their parents. This truly is an expedition to remember.

And as if
that wasn't eclectic enough, if they are in the area we'll
also chase the biggest fish in the world!
